You can hear it just from the startup on a bone stock Hyundai N - there is so much sound being restricted. We knew we were uniquely suited to provide a solution that would give N owners just what they are looking for. Straight away, we made the decision to bring in all three back to back to ensure we have an option for every shape and size - Veloster N, followed by Kona N, capped with the Elantra N.One of the first things we did was get to testing and improving the back pressure. This involved testing with each of the N mufflers we had previously developed for the European market, with several stages of adjustment until we were satisfied with the data. From there, it was on to the front half of the system.Compared to the i20 and i30 out of Europe, the US Market vehicles required a full redevelopment of the front half due to the different heat shielding. Since we were already changing the front silencer to fit within the chassis tunnel, we used some of the same technology that we used on the GR Corolla system to create a drone-free front resonator that provides a significant amount more volume than OEM.Speaking of volume, we utilize Milltek designed and developed valved outlets that are removable from the muffler. Therefore, you'll maintain OEM valve mode settings, though a remote valve controller is available for those who wish to have more control over when their valve opens and closes.As always, our systems are manufactured from T304L stainless steel, and the N systems are a full 3? in diameter. Since then I had been trying to find one that I could get in time for SEMA and mid-October... I finally found one.It arrived to our US HQ on October 26th and the mad panic began to get the vision bought to life.First thing was first, colour change..Inozetek has always surpassed my expectations when it comes to the finish on their wraps, and after going back and forth on color I landed on Boneyard White with some persuading from our friends at Blackfish Graphics.Well.. really it was more like bribery; they told me if I went with Boneyard White over the Citrus Yellow they would design the livery for me. That is an offer too good to turn down so for the first time in forever I was about to have a car that wasn't yellow.Blackfish are renowned for their work at the Nurburgring and their designs are always unique so we didn't need to get them much guidance. All I knew I wanted was for it to match the modifications I had already chosen and look like it was built... for the track.And they did not let us down... in fact the design completely changed the course of the build... and yellow was BACK!We installed the Competition Motorsport Cage, had the brake calipers cerakoted yellow and installed a BFI Shift Knob & Alcantara Boot. But we would be crazy not to play around with some Carbon which is where AutoID stepped iin.The kit includes a rear diffuser, front splitter, side skirts and rear wing, all finished in Carbon Fiber.The kit was super simple to install and we had it done in just a few hours thanks to the very precise and thorough guides the team send out with all their kits!EBC are my forever brake partner so their floating rotors was a no brainer but the M2 came with Brembo 18Z Calipers so we wanted to leave them on for the time being.My first order of business on the M2 had been putting a set of wheels on order and I had known from day 1 I wanted the Rotiform NGO's. They managed to color match the emblem and center cap to match the yellow in the design and cage and went ahead and knocked up a set of these 20" wheels in Gloss Candy Black finish.Honestly I couldn't be happier with the wheels, the finish is incredible and they way they tie in with everything else is perfect to me.The car is sitting on a set of Cobra Height Adjustable Springs which we installed after seeing the AutoID build vehicle which was using the same set up.I thought I was going to have to tint the front lights but we found a CSL Style module through AutoID that plug right up in to the OEM lights to change the color settings on the LED's.Next was power, I opted for the RaceChip tuning box after seeing how much it laid down on a Dyno on the Milltek Sport Ltd M2 in the UK - they got over 500hp at the crank and I got FOMO so I had one sent out for this one too!Any good build car needs an intake so our partners at Ramair stepped in witth one of their dyno proven intake kits finished with a carbon fiber housing for under the hood. It's stunning and provides all the intake noise you could wish for plus added power!The finishing touch was OF COURSE a Milltek Turbo Back. I like it loud, so much to my neighbours dismay I have a Non-Resonated Cat Back with Hi Flow Sports Cat Downpipe.We hadn't heard the exhaust in person on a Non OPF Equipped car so we tested the Primary Cat Back first and we'll say that it was... enough. It sounded incredible and had zero drown, a product I'm sure many people will be very happy with.But I couldn't bring it to SEMA without a downpipe so I left the Non-Resonated Cat Back on and added the HJS downpipe so I wouldn't get a CEL and the rest was history. Building on this experience of developing products for both the 5.0 V8 Coyote and 2.3l EcoBoost motors we wanted to bring something new to market and develop a range of products that focussed on performance, sound, drone and resonance control while giving other potential owners the best range of choices of how they want to configure the exhaust on their own car.With our US HQ fully operational with its new R&D facility just in time for our Vapour Blue Dark Horse with Handling package to arrive from our local Ford dealership, we wasted no time in getting to work, totally redesigning the exhaust from the ground up.Starting with the 5.0 V8 we choose to offer a range of center sections, with options for X pipe, H Pipe, Straight pipe, Center Resonator or the new Active H Pipe. The Active H pipe brings the option to run as a traditional H pipe or close the active valve in the H section to create a straight pipe setup for a deeper more aggressive tone to the exhaust. The pipework as with all Milltek systems is T304L Stainless Steel (hence the new license plate on car) and for the new S650 we optimised the pipework to be twin 2 ¾? thin wall for the best flow and reduce weight.Next we looked at the rear muffler setups, with options covering the dual outlet (non-active exhaust) 2.3l Ecoboosts and 5.0 V8, Quad Outlet Active Exhaust GT models and rounding off the range for the Dark Horse with the larger diameter OE tips a final option to cover this model. All muffler setup's use reflective technology to help produce a deep tone without drone or resonance to complement the various center section options. For the Active Exhaust models we connect directly to the OE wiring and retain the factory control options with a unique design and creates a muffler bypass when the valves are open.For the tips we took from our existing range a choice of four finishes, including polished stainless, cerakote satin black, brushed titanium and burnt titanium, These tips are 4? for the Ecoboost and GT models and 4.5? for the Dark Horse to perfectly compliment the OE diffuser sizes.Once the development was complete at our Knoxville, TN HQ we had only a few weeks to get the car ready for it's first major event, SEMA. We quickly formulated the plan of what we wanted for the car and set about some changes, first off was the color change, for us a classic racing green was one of the colors we wished Ford had offered from factory, so having used Inozetek before, we knew exactly where to turn and their Super Gloss Vintage Racing Green was the perfect fit, expertly installed by the team at AZ Rag in Knoville combined with the classic race inspired graphics and stripes gave us the base to continue our modifications from.Next up was the wheels, the stock wheels just no longer cut it for us, so wanted something more detailed with a color to work with the new green wrap, so after a call to Vossen we ordered a set of their LC3-01's wheels in the Satin Bronze and in no time they were dispatched from Florida, wrapped in some Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, these really look the part when combined with the Steeda lowering springs we also fitted.Finally to help the new exhaust get air into the engine a little quicker we called our partners, Ramair, and they created a new pleated cotton cone filter to the replace the OE paper cones.We love the way the car has turned out,and can't wait to continue to build on this new platform with lots for additions planned for the future, including long tube header and CEL free high flow sports cats. https://www.milltekcorp.com/SEMA_Build_Number_1_The_Milltek_Dark_Horse--post--22.html 22 https://www.milltekcorp.com/userfiles/images/sys/blog_items/thumbnails/SEMA_Build_Number_1_The_Milltek_Dark_Horse_dsc05141-actual-178-v1.webp 2023-10-17
